Remember:- if its a boat, I can do it

Hard at it!

My name is Richard and I have been around boats since I was eight years old and like other people from the good old days I started with an 8ft wooden lug sail sailing dinghy and time in the sea scouts.

Since then there have been quite a lot of crafts I have owned including a 28ft wooden ships lifeboat which I fitted out and converted to sail, 30ft wooden plywood sailing boat and a very rare 28ft Westerly cruiser/racer.

Before taking the plunge, (if you will excuse the expression), into the world of self employment I worked for a variety of companies including Westerly Yachts, Scan Yachts and C-Kip Yachts at their Hamble bases.

In 1980 after being made redundant from the last boat company I decided it was time to go it alone and offer boat owners something totally new in the world of boats which was to go mobile all over the UK to wherever the boat and owner was located, whether it was in a boatyard, the owners garden or on a farm.

Over the years I have done a wide variety of work, from caulking wooden hulls, rigging, structual repairs to wood and GRP craft, gas installations, plumbing, painting, valeting and other general maintenance work, besides
interior fitouts on a variety of craft including sailing boats from 22ft to 60ft, motor cruisers and narrow-boats, but most of the work has been on sailing craft which as I said earlier is where I started.

Having been mobile for so long you get to see a much wider variety of craft and work that needs to be done and also a wide variety of owners who all have different needs, wants and ideas.

As a lot of owners have found out, fitting an interior is a lot more than just cutting pieces of lovely wood. It encompasses a lot of skills like interior design, an eye for good lines and measurements, colours, plumbing, GRP
laying up, making mouldings and trims, to name but a few.
